Summer heat safety for Okanagan pets

Okanagan summers get genuinely hot. Practical adjustments for walks, water, vehicles and flat-faced breeds.

Heat-related illness develops faster than most owners expect, particularly in flat-faced breeds, overweight pets, older pets and those with heart or airway conditions.

Shift walks to early morning or later evening, test pavement with the back of your hand, carry water, and never leave a pet in a parked vehicle.

Heavy panting that does not settle with rest and shade, unsteadiness, vomiting or bright red gums are reasons to call immediately rather than wait.
